This week's Consumer Electronics Show has been busting with 3D-compatible products. Sherwood isn't going to be left out of the fray, announcing two new 3D-ready receivers, which will start shipping this April.
Both the RD-606i and the RD-6506 come packing three HDMI 1.4a ports and one output, meaning either one can be integrated into a home 3D setup. Delivering 100 watts to each of five channels, both also include Audio Return Channel, two composite video inputs and two outputs, six analog audio ins and two analog audio outs, and one optical and two coaxial digital audio inputs. If you want to get a little old-school, each one has an AM/FM tuner, with options for 30 station presets on each.
Each receiver can also decode DTS HD-Master and Dolby True HD high-resolution lossless audio, as well as DTS, DTS High Resolution, DTS 96/24, and Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Pro Logic II. In the case of other sources, both receivers also come packing five additional synthesized surround modes, which can bump audio quality through 192 KHz/24 bit DACs for all five channels.
"With the inclusion of HDMI 1.4a with repeater and Audio Return Channel in the introduction of the RG-6506 and RD-606i, we've brought the price point on these advanced functions down to a new level," said Gary Graning, Sherwood's VP of sales. "In addition to providing 3D video capability, we are making it easy for users to seamlessly connect their Blu-ray player to the receiver to ensure they can enjoy lossless high-resolution DTS or Dolby audio."
While it may seem like the receivers are identical, the RD-606i has a few bonuses. This product adds in networking features, web radio access, a USB host input, UPnP and DLNA 1.5 certification, and the Windows 7 'Plays To' feature. Those added features will cost you $349.95, with the RD-6506 coming in at $100 less.
