Sherbourn Unveils CD-1 Audiophile CD Player and Power Amps at CEDIA 2012

By Rachel Cericola

Sherbourn Technologies is making some noise at this week's CEDIA Expo, via a slew of new amplifiers and an audiophile-worthy compact disc player.

That single component is the CD-1 Audiophile Compact Disc Player. See, it has the word "audiophile" right in the product name! It has the technology to back up that claim as well, with the Analog Devices AD1955 digital-to-analog converter, a fully differential signal path, a discrete output stage, and balanced (XLR) stereo audio outputs.

Designed with the discriminating two-channel listener in mind, the CD-1 also has a pair of Tiffany-style RCA stereo analog outputs for unbalanced audio, as well as coaxial, optical, and AES/EBU (XLR) outputs. Other features include DC trigger inputs and outputs, straightforward transport controls, and a machined aluminum remote control.

"The CD-1 isn't flashy. Its raison d'ĂȘtre is simplicity incarnate: delivering pure, transparent, unfettered CD audio in a lovely, easily installed chassis," said Dan Laufman, president of Sherbourn Technologies.

The 12-channel PA 12-45 distributed audio amplifier has extension inputs and output flexibility.

If you're all set on a CD player, Sherbourn also has four new amps. Designed for a variety of installs, the new offerings include the 2-channel PA 2-50 flex amp and the 2-channel/four zone PA 4Z-75 distribution amp, as well as the 12-channel PA 12-45 and 18-channel PA 18-45 distributed audio amplifiers with extension inputs and output flexibility.

The larger PA 12-45 and PA 18-45 promise 45 watts per channel at 8 ohms, and can bridge channel pairs for 80 watts of power at 8 ohms. Both have independent inputs for each channel and two stereo input buses with buffered loop outputs, so that multiple zones can share the same input. Other features include oroidal power supplies, automatic signal sensing and 12-volt trigger inputs.

Designed for complex, compact installs, the 4Z-75 is perfect for delivering the same audio content to as many as four stereo zones, with 75 watts per channel. Finally, the PA 2-250 is a compact flex amp that can deliver 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms, all with a chassis that measures just one half rack width. Other features include two manual or audio-switched stereo inputs, a loop output for expansion, IR and RS-232 remote control, digital volume control, and output terminals for two sets of speakers Sherbourn also offers the 2RU, an optional rack faceplate that allows two PA 2-250s to be mounted side-by-side.

All of Sherbourn's products are exclusive to authorized Sherbourn dealers and come packing a 10-year warranty. The CD-1 Audiophile Compact Disc Player is available now, with an MSRP of $799. The PA 18-45, PA 12-45, PA 4Z-75 and PA 2-250 are also shipping now, at $1299, $899, $799 and $399, respectively.
