Sharp's 90-inch LC-90LE745U AQUOS LED TV Will Cost $10,999

By Rachel Cericola

Just last week, we told you how much Sharp really likes big HDTVs. (See "When it Comes to HDTV, Size Matters (That's What Sharp Said)" for more info.) Today, they reinforced that point just a little more, with a big announcement and unveiling -- of an even bigger AQUOS LED TV.

In New York City today, Sharp unveiled and announced the immediate availability of a 90-inch AQUOS LED TV. Also known as model LC-90LE745U, this is quite a big boy, measuring almost 4 feet tall and about 6 feet and 8 inches wide. Drooling yet?

"When you watch something that is that large with that great of a picture, it literally takes you to a different place," says Mark Viken, Sharp's vice president of marketing. "It's quite an experience."

Beside being huge, this 90-incher will have a lot of the bells and whistles you'd expect from a new TV. It has a full 1080p HD image, full array LED backlighting, active 3D technology, AquoMotion 240 technology, and built-in WiFi.  The MSRP is $10,999.99 but Sharp reps told editor Chris Boylan at the unveiling that the UPP or lowest sale price will be just under 10 grand ($9999.99).

Of course, Sharp wouldn't expect you to pony up that kind of dough just for bragging rights on the world's largest LED TV - this set also comes packing a robust suite of Smart technology and streaming features, in the form of Sharp's SmartCentral platform. That basically means you'll be enjoying giant images from Netflix, YouTube, CinemaNow, Hulu Plus and VUDU. If you add on a compatible camera, you can also enjoy Skype video calls that are literally larger than life.

That SmartCentral access also adds in AQUOS Advantage LIVE, Sharp's web-based customer service center. This little perk allows Sharp reps to take control of your TV (with your permission of course), to diagnose problems or fix errant menu settings.

"We've gotten such positive response from the 60-, 70- and 80-inch models," says Viken. "We feel that the customer is more than willing to go bigger."

If you're planning to make that move, make sure to have a little help on hand. The LC-90LE745U weighs in at about 141 pounds. Available now, Sharp is also packing up the LC-90LE745U with two pairs of active IR-based 3D glasses, for in-your-face 3D special effects right out of the box.  Additional pairs of glasses are available through Sharp dealers.  According to Sharp reps, the 90-inch set will not be available for sale online.
