Could you possibly get more involved in your movie-watching experience? If you have a Samsung HDTV, the answer is a definite yes. The company just teamed up with ad agency Digitas to launch The Smart Living Room, a new interactive microsite that adds personalization and social networking into your TV watching.
The new site is powered by Hunch, a search engine that can make personalized recommendations based on a series of questions. Answer the questions and The Smart Living Room can help you learn more about your own movie interests, as well as those of your friends. In the end, you can create one big movie event.
We took The Smart Living Room's 10-question survey, which asked about our location, age, our gaming and shopping preferences, and more. In the end, we were connected to some of our favorite comedies, including Animal House, Old School, and Office Space. Weird, huh?
"Living rooms are networked and connected like never before, and that's changing the way people watch television," said Seth Solomons, the worldwide marketing officer for Digitas. "With the Smart Living Room, Samsung has created a dynamic and personalized entertainment experience that brings people together to enjoy movies in a new way."
From there, you can answer more questions or create a TV Event. This allows users to make a date and time for the selected movie, as well as invite friends via email or Facebook. Samsung will also offer the TV Profile technology on its own Facebook page.
Of course, the site also introduces viewers to Samsung's Smart TV, as well as how to use its features. Learn about the various apps available on your Samsung HDTV, as well as options to surf the web, watch 3D, search across your TV and connected PCs, add in cameras, and much more. The site even can even tell you where to buy a Smart TV in your area.
"We believe TV viewing is an inherently social experience, and The Smart Living Room brings consumers one step further by giving them access to an immersive world of content and functionality that they can share," said Ellen Kim, VP of Samsung's marketing group of visual display business. "With our partners Digitas and Hunch, we're continuing to transform the viewer experience by taking an imaginative and fresh look at everything we love about watching TV."
Samsung says that the Smart Living Room experience will launch in about 20 local markets, with both TV and digital media support.
