If you have a 2012 Samsung Smart TV, you just got something new to watch -- more than 140,000 things, actually. Samsung just announced plans to add Amazon Instant Video to its app lineup.
Amazon Instant Video boasts more than 140,000 movies and TV episodes to rent or purchase. Many of those titles are also in high-def! If you pay the $79 a year to have Amazon Prime, you can now stream that service's 30,000 or so on-demand titles right to your TV, without any sort of additional fees.
The Amazon Instant Video app is available right now, as a download via Samsung Apps and any 2012 Smart Samsung TV. According to Samsung, the app will have a redesigned user interface that is optimized for the living room experience. Besides the streaming, the app also has the Your Watchlist feature, closed captions, and tailored content recommendations.
"Streaming video content has emerged as the killer app for our Smart TV platform. In addition to our current lineup of big brands, Amazon Instant Video has been one of the most commonly requested services from our customers," said Eric Anderson, Samsung's VP of content and product solutions. "We are very proud to say that today we deliver on that request -- along with a brand new UI available for the first time on Samsung TVs."
The Amazon Instant Video is available now on Samsung Smart TVs, along with several other streaming audio and video options. Some of the manufacturer's most popular TV apps include Netflix, Hulu Plus, VUDU, YouTube, and more.
To get the Amazon Instant Video app on a Samsung 2012 Smart TV, just download it from the Samsung Apps section and sign in using your existing Amazon account (or create a new one). Any movies and TV episodes that you previously purchased or rented through Amazon.com will automatically appear in Your Video Library on the Amazon Instant Video app.
