At this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Samsung took the wraps off its 2011 slate of 3D Blu-ray Disc players. Amid the fray is the wall-mountable BD-D7500, now the world's slimmest Blu-ray Disc player. The optical disc spinner features slot-based disc loading and a crazy thin 0.9-inch product height. Complementing its sheer proportions, the BD-D7500 also features Samsung's Ultra Fast Play technology which yields a speedy 3 second boot time.
Although not as skinny as its sibling, the BD-D7000 follows suit with an equally distinctive design. The minimalist BD-D7000 features a compact square footprint, giving it a look more akin to an AppleTV box than a 3D Blu-ray Disc player. Like the BD-D7500, the BD-D7000 features Ultra Fast Play, integrated Wi-Fi, 2D-to-3D conversion, and DLNA certification.
As for Samsung's more traditionally-designed players, the BD-D6500 and BD-D6700 still manage to deliver a host of high-end features. Chief among them on the BD-D6700 is not one but two HDMI outputs, allowing for audio-only output to legacy A/V receivers while Blu-ray 3D video is output to a 3D TV. The less expensive BD-D6500 gives you only one HDMI output, but retains the ever popular integrated Wi-Fi.
All of these premium models in Samsung's Blu-ray player lineup for 2011 also include Samsung's content sharing and network features, such as AllShare and Smart Hub. The latter includes Your Video for access to personal videos, a "Search All" utility, and of course Samsung Apps for acccess to Netflix, YouTube, et al.
Pricing and availability on these new 2011 models is not available, but watch this space for more information as it comes in.
