Runco's LS-100d Projector Boasts an Ultra-Short Throw Lens System

By Rachel Cericola

Runco announced a projection option that can squeeze that luxury brand into almost any room. The new LightStyle LS-100d projector features the NEAR (Next generation Extreme Aligned Reflection) ultra-short throw (UST) lens system.

That technology can deliver a 92-inch diagonal image for gaming and movies, into almost any setting. It's also pretty easy to install, with a depth of only 18 inches.

Featuring Runco's InfiniLight lampless LED illumination technology, the LS-100d boasts 70 percent power savings compared to other big screen technologies and little to no maintenance. Runco says that the InfiniLight system can calibrate every time it starts up, and features over 540 Lumens of brightness.  Or really, over 540 "Q Lumens" which is a term that Runco coined to describe the perceived brightness advantages of their RGB LED lighting technology over traditional lamp lighting.  The Q Lumen spec reflects the fact that their wider color spectrum appears up to 60% brighter than a traditional lamp of the same absolute brightness.  Also, the LED light's brightness does not degrade as quickly as a traditional lamp which makes these perceived brightness advantages even more noticeable after 1,000 to 2,000 hours of ordinary use.  LED lighting also means that there is no bulb to change.  Runco tells as that the light source used in the LS-100d has a rated lifespan of 50,000 hours.

"With the LS-100d, we've capitalized on the deep knowledge of Planar's short-throw systems for professional and commercial applications, giving us the ability to offer a superior viewing performance for our residential customers looking for a big screen experience in their home," said Jennifer Davis, Runco's VP of Marketing. "Runco's nearly maintenance-free, energy efficient InfiniLight LED illumination system delivers a stunning image in a form factor that reduces the complexity of a projection installation."

Other features include Runco's own Digital High-Definition (DHD4) external video processor, which has a Digital Compass capability.

Runco' says that the LS-100d will start shipping in December 2011, with an MSRP of $19,995. That purchase price includes a two-year RuncoCare standard warranty. Runco RedCarpet and PremierCare extended service options are also available.
