Didn't get what you really wanted this year? Maybe non-stop entertainment will ease that pain. Even if the holiday left you without much of an AV budget, you can still start the New Year with a super-cool device with a ton of streaming options.
Amazon is currently slashing $20 off the price of the Roku 2 XS Streaming Player. It doesn't seem like much of a discount, but this makes the price just $79 -- for over 600 channels of movies, TV shows, sports, news, music and much more. This is the top-of-the-line Roku box, which also means that you can enjoy those streams in up to 1080p (when available, of course).
Now, some fees and subscriptions may apply for some of that content. However, Amazon wants to make a little more of it free. As a nice little bonus, Amazon is throwing in $5 in Amazon Instant Video credit if you purchase this product by Monday, January 7, 2013. To get the credit, you'll need to register the box by that January 7th date. Then, Amazon will put the credit into your account. Once redeemed, you'll need to use that freebie by March 31, 2013. Find out more about this offer on the product page for the Roku 2 XS:
As mentioned, the Roku 2 XS can do 1080p, but it can do a lot of other things as well. This model has support for Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound pass-through. It also comes packing the Game Remote, so you can check out all of the games available for streaming or play Angry Birds, which is pre-loaded onto the box.
Other features on the Roku 2 XS include built-in WiFi, an Ethernet port and a USB port.
There's no word on how long Amazon will offer the reduced price on this Roku box. Just make sure that you place your order through Amazon -- and not one of the retailer's third-party merchants. Amazon is offering the discounted price, as well as free Super Saver Shipping. However, if you have Prime, you can get 2-day shipping for free and have plenty of content to stream to your new Roku! That fast shipping option could come in handy, too. Remember that you need to register the box by Monday, January 7, 2013 to get the credit!
