Hailed as both one of the best films of all time and one of the most requested titles on high-def disc, Pulp Fiction will finally be arriving on Blu-ray Disc October 4th, joined that same day by writer/director Quentin Tarantino's 1997 follow-up, Jackie Brown, also on Blu-ray Disc. Both will be released by Lionsgate, the studio which now controls the Miramax movie catalog.
Perhaps most excitingly, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown were remastered under the direct supervision of Quentin Tarantino with new high-resolution lossless audio and 1080p video. A wealth of archival material is ported over from older editions, and some new material has been added as well. Still no commentaries, but what're ya gonna do?
As a refresher, Pulp Fiction won the 1994 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and earned seven nominations in all, cruelly robbed of Best Director and Best Picture by Robert Zemeckis' Forrest Gump. The movie knocked audiences and critics on their collective butts for its quotable dialogue, shocking plot twists and the bold intertwining of three stories, recounted with a radical chronology. Two L.A. mob enforcers (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson) are out to recover a mysterious stolen briefcase, the mobster's wife (Uma Thurman) has a dirty little secret that almost kills her, and a washed-up fighter (Bruce Willis) has a couple of surprises left.
The Blu-ray release will include a new collection of interviews with the exceptional cast of actors, as well as a look back at the critical response. Here's a complete rundown:
Jackie Brown, based on the novel Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard, was Oscar-nomination-worthy for supporting actor Robert Forster, and it also received other award nominations. Pam Grier stars as Jackie, a not-so-innocent flight attendant caught in a complex web of greedy, shady characters. Jackie Brown special features will include:
The Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown Blu-ray discs will each be available for a suggested retail price of $19.99.
