Philips Pronto Debuts In-Wall TSW9500 Controller

By Rachel Cericola

Philips Pronto is turning its latest controller into a work of art -- a functioning one. The new TSW9500 is the company's first in-wall control panel.

Modeled after configurations used in the company's TSU9800 and TSU9600 handhelds, the new TSW9500 introduces another option for control-happy consumers. Configurations that have been created for those handhelds can also be used on the TSW9500, using Pronto's ProntoEditProfessional software.

Boasting a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen, the TSW9500 is completely customizable, and can handle everything from A/V and lighting to IP-based cameras and shades.

The TSW9500 features five hard buttons on the front of the unit. These can be programmed for commonly used applications. Featuring the ProntoScript 2-way technology, it's also compatible with the RFX9400 and RFX9600 extenders. Other features include an Ethernet connection, an IR output and a mini USB connector.

"What makes the TSW9500 so unique and exciting for installers is its seamless integration of two-way communication," said Rudy Musschebroeck, marketing manager for Philips Pronto. "The numerous ProntoScript modules that exist for the TSU9600 and TSU9800 are readily available for the TSW9500. Integrators will save a lot of time since no specific configuration needs to be created and no programming needs to be done."

Designed for installation on any surface (including brick!), the TSW9500 will be available this November in various front plate colors. It's expected to sell for $799.
