Paradigm Rolls Out Special Edition Speaker Line

By Ian White

Fresh off its recent acquisition of MartinLogan, speaker manufacturer Paradigm was strutting its stuff in New York City this week with the launch of its Special Edition line of loudspeakers. Paradigm showed off the SE 1 two-way bookshelf monitor ($349 each) which was finished in a real rosenut veneer and looks very substantial for the asking price. The SE 1 is a relatively easy load at 88dB (8 ohms) and would be ideal for the front and rear channels in a surround set-up.

For those looking for sonic love in a larger floor standing format, Paradigm launched the SE 3 2-1/2 way, 4-driver towers ($1,500). These uber-sensitive forty pound behemoths are also finished in a beautiful rosenut veneer and look like a great choice for a full-range tower.

Choose your weapon: tower or bookshelf, Paradigm has got you covered with their new Special Edition line.

The importance of a full-range center channel speaker can not be overstated, and Paradigm has a substantial beast in the SE Center. The 4-driver, 3-way center channel speaker is a perfect match to the rest of the line-up and would not be out of place in an even more expensive set-up.

Finishing up, was the brand new SE SUB ($799 each) that will play cleanly down to 24 Hz with its 10" woofer and Ultra-Class-D 900 watt amplifier (Dynamic peak). While it looks little, the SE Sub packs a wallop.

The overall package offers a taste of Paradigm's Reference line of loudspeakers at a more affordable price, but with high quality touches, such as real wood veneers.
