Paradigm Expands Shift Line with H15NC and H15 Headphones

By Rachel Cericola

Some audio is so good, you can't help but to hoard it. Well, Paradigm Electronics is about to make sound a very personal experience, with its newly announced H15NC and H15 on-ear headphones.

As part of the company's Shift series, both products boast a number of proprietary sound innovations. Paradigm develops those goodies in its own research and development facility, which includes a 36,000-cubic-foot anechoic chamber, multiple double-blind listening rooms, and an advanced Bruel and Kjaer Head and Torso Simulator (they call it "Angelina") that acts as a human simulator.

All of that technology and care has produced the H15NC Active Noise Cancelling Headphones, which come packing proprietary active supra-aural noise-cancelling technology. This perk promises to drown out about 97.6 percent of ambient background noise, making them perfect for any mode of travel. It also has a dual microphone design and an onboard user interface with LED indicators for the noise cancellation.

Both models also have a detachable cable with an in-line remote and microphone, which is designed to work with Apple's iPods, iPhones and iPads, as well as most smartphones, MP3 players, laptops and more. Other common features include 40-mm mylar drivers and 15-mm voice coils with powerful neodymium magnet structures, a frequency response of 20-20,000 Hz, a sensitivity rating of 106 dB, and leather earcups with Comfort-Tilt adjustment.

"We've taken every possible step to ensure our on-ear headphones deliver an intensely realistic listening experience in the over-crowded, over-hyped world of personal audio," said Mark Aling, Paradigm's senior director of marketing. "On-ear headphones should deliver all of the sonic clarity, richness and depth of freestanding speakers. Wearing our on-ear headphones is the equivalent of having your own private Paradigm listening room. When travelling, say on a plane, the H15NC's are not only going to drastically reduce annoying engine noise, they're also going to deliver an intense listening experience that will make long flights far more enjoyable. Considering the amount of research and expertise put into performance, aesthetics and comfort, these headphones should quickly earn their place as an elite yet affordable product, inspiring a new generation of audio enthusiasts through their sound quality."

The H15NC comes with its own padded travel case, while the H15 has a pouch. Expect both models to be available in November for $299 and $199, respectively.
