Can you see me now?
The answer is: yes! Finally, after months of hearing how Panasonic would offer Skype through its VIERA Cast service, the option has become available.
Panasonic first made the announcement back in January. Today, the company says that Skype is officially now part of the VIERA Cast family. All you need is a VIERA Cast-enabled Panasonic plasma HDTV, as well as the TY-CC10W camera, which is now available via select retailers.
The TY-CC10W camera retails for $169.95. It has four unidirectional microphones, an echo canceling system, and audio processing features.
Hook the camera up to your VIERA plasma's USB port, tune it to the Skype service on your TV, and start calling. You will need a Skype account to make calls to landline and mobile phones. Plans start at $2.99 per month. Of course, Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls are always free.
Expect more Skype-capable models, including the VT25 3D-enabled plasma TVs, to beavailable for sale in the upcoming weeks.
The only place we've been able to find the camera for sale so far is Panasonic's own web site but expect this to roll out into more stores in the coming weeks.
