People just love to rock out in the car. That said, very few car stereos can rival a whole home theater. Panasonic is hoping to change that, with its Aupeo streaming audio brand.
According to a new announcement, Aupeo GmbH has been working very closely with DTS, Inc. The result of that collaboration is a new streaming audio platform that will actually put the DTS-HD format into cars. That means you can soon rock out on the road, with full surround sound. It's going to be like you packed a home theater into the trunk!
To stream multichannel audio, Aupeo is going to use the high-performance adaptive bit rate profile of the DTS-HD format. The company says there should be no worries about limited bandwidth or network conditions; the format boasts the ability to adapt to bit-rate changes, all without audio dropouts, clicks, or pops.
In addition to DTS, Aupeo is also working with Elliot Scheiner, the multi-Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer.
"Providing consumers and automakers with a unique experience is very important to us," said David Taylor, CTO and managing director of Aupeo. "The technology combination of our platform, which is designed to provide personalized audio content in multiple formats to consumers, and DTS' codecs to deliver multichannel decoding for in-vehicle use or two-channel decoding for headphone use is very appealing to consumers that want to take full advantage of their car audio systems but also want extend this listening experience to mobile consumer devices. We are pleased to be working with DTS and content providers to launch this service later in the year."
Aupeo currently provides streaming services in more than 40 countries. Founded in 2008, the service also offers more than 6,000 channels of terrestrial radio, podcast streaming, and other services.
There's no word on how and when Aupeo will get this new technology out on the road. However, the company is currently showing off the actual service at the the 2014 International CES.
