The race is on! CE manufacturers seem bent on being the "first" to get various 3D home entertainment devices on shelves and into homes.
Pulling to the front of the pack is Panasonic, who just announced that its first full HD 3DTV home theater system would go on sale on March 10, 2010 at Best Buy. They have actually teamed up with the retailer for a whole in-store press conference/photo opp focused on the first sale at the Best Buy store in Union Square in New York City on the morning of March 10th with executives from both companies on hand to answer questions. We don't know who that buyer is going to be, but we'd like to be their friend.
Other unknowns include what's actually in the system. It could be the complete system that Panasonic was showing off at CES. That included one of many 3D-enhanced plasma displays, as well as the DMP-BDT350 Blu-ray player. Panasonic has not confirmed what items will be available on March 10, but we do know that you can expect that the setup will deliver both 1080p and 3D, and be available in Best Buy's Magnolia Home Theater stores.
Update: Panasonic's PR firm has confirmed that the full bundle will be on display and available for sale: VT25 series 3DTV, DMP-BDT350 Blu-ray 3D player and active shutter glasses. As to what software they will have to demo this system, that remains to be seen...
Update: Some Samsung 3DTV models are available now (in Stock) on Amazon.com, including models in the C7000 series, the 46-inch UN46C7000 and the 55-inch UN55C7000.
