There are a lot of companies out there making set-top boxes with a plethora of streaming media services. As we mentioned in last week's Roku 3 Review, it seems like Apple and Roku pretty much have that market covered. However, Panasonic is hoping to squeeze in there somewhere, with a pair of new streaming media players.
The company just announced its first two entries into the streaming media player market back at January's CES. However, with all of the other announcements and general show insanity, there wasn't a whole lot of fanfare for this duo. Now, Panasonic is putting some interesting features into the DMP-MS10 and the DMP-MST60, and positioning both right in the middle of the offerings from Roku and Apple.
Both models include built-in WiFi. external HDD playback, and a whole lot of web-based goodies. The MS10 is restricted to IP VOD services such as Netflix, CinemaNow, VUDU, Hulu Plus, YouTube and Amazon Instant Video. The MST60 opens things up a bit, to offer everything under the VIERA Connect umbrella.
The MST60 is also a standout by including a web browser and support for 3D and a 2D-to-3D conversion feature -- something that Roku and Apple seem to be lacking at this point. This model also includes Miracast mirroring for putting smartphone and tablet content up on the big screen, all at the swipe of a finger.
Panasonic has started shipping the DMP-MS10 and the DMP-MST60. The products are priced at $79.99 and $99.99, respectively.
