This pint-sized speaker clan is almost complete! PSB Speakers just announced plans to add a dedicated center-channel speaker to its award-winning mini line. The company says that its new Imagine mini c is small in size, with a price tag to match.
It also manages to squeeze a lot of audio technology into that compact cabinet. PSB has packed in two 4-inch woofers with clay/ceramic-filled polypropylene cone and rubber surrounds, along with a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter with a Ferrofluid and Neodymium magnet. It also has the Turbo-Magnet, another neodymium magnet that lives on top of the pole piece. The three drivers are laid out horizontally, with a rear port bass reflex.
According to PSB, the mini c "crosses the tweeter at 2.2 kHz," which allows the drivers to be placed closer together. The company also says that the crossover frequency has been kept very low, relative to the woofer size. The end result should deliver the same sound, regardless of where you're sitting.
The Imagine mini c measures 14-by-6-by-8.5 inches and weighs in at under 10 pounds, making it easy to place. It's also easy to match to your decor, with five designer finishes available. The PWB-1 adjustable wall-mount bracket is also an option, for placing the speaker under a flat panel for a more streamlined look. That bracket is sold separately, for an extra $100 (MSRP).
"The Imagine mini has quickly become one of the most popular models in PSB's history and is one of my personal favorites as well," said Paul Barton, PSB's founder and chief designer. "The mini not only looks and sounds great, but it can be used effectively in a number of applications from music to home theater to desktop audio. Adding the mini c to our Imagine line will offer home theater enthusiasts a compelling mini 5.1 system that delivers remarkable value."
PSB Speakers will start shipping the Imagine mini c this November. The real wood veneers of dark cherry, walnut or black ash will have an MSRP of $700 each, with high-gloss white or black models costing an extra $70 each.
