PSB Announces All-Weather CS1000 Speaker

By Rachel Cericola

The weather outside may still be frightful, at least in the frozen tundra of the Northeastern U.S., but we're already thinking about summer barbecue season. Apparently, so is PSB Speakers. The company just announced plans for a new indoor/outdoor speaker, the CS1000.

As part of the company's CustomSound Series, the CS1000 boasts a multi-purpose design that should be able to accommodate just about every and any indoor or outdoor application. Also, because the CS1000 is all-weather, that means it's not just for summer. It can set the soundtrack for leaf raking, hanging Christmas lights, and any other seasonal chores or gatherings.

To combat the elements, the CS1000 has a thick UV-resistant polypropylene cabinet, an aluminum grille, and rust-proof terminals with a rubber cover.

Inside, the two-way CS1000 has a 6.5-inch woofer with a clay/ceramic injection-filled polypropylene cone and rubber surround, as well as a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter. Other features include a front-facing port with a rubber port plug, a wire management system, a paintable enclosure and grille, and five-way, gold-plated binding posts.

Aside from providing an all-season soundtrack, the CS1000s should be pretty flexible when it comes to placement. A dual-axis bracket allows the CS1000 to be mounted vertically or horizontally, as well as rotated up to 90 degrees on one axis and 170 degrees on the other. That means that the speaker can be mounted even in tricky spaces, then aimed towards the listening area.

Expect to hear more from the CS1000 when PSB makes them available in the first quarter of 2011. Available in a black or white finish, the MSRP is listed at $499 per pair.
