When you think of "separates" you probably don't think of home theater components, unless you have more than a few dollars to spend on an amp, pre-amp and other devices. That's set to change as Outlaw Audio releases its first new product in quite some time, the Outlaw Model 975 Surround Processor, priced at just $549.
The internet-only audio/video manufacturer and retaile, is releasing this aggressively-priced home theater processor for music and movie lovers looking for the highest performance picture and sound at an affordable price. The surround processor comes with a streamlined feature set, but includes all the good stuff you'll need to set up an impressive home theater system. The pre/pro supports the latest Dolby and DTS surround sound formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. It also supports Dolby Pro Logic IIz and DTS Neo:6 post-processing.
Precision surround decoding is enhanced by highly flexible bass management controls, which use Quad-crossover settings from 40Hz to 200Hz with 12dB/octave (2nd order) high-pass and 24dB/octave (4th order) low-pass slopes.
Plenty of inputs make the budget-friendly Model 975 a viable option. The component has four 3D-ready HDMI inputs, and an HDMI output with Audio Return Channel (ARC) for sending soundtracks to the processor from the streaming content or built-in tuner of a smart TV. Traditionally a separate audio cable would be required to handle this purpose. The unit has two inputs and one output for component video, as well as "legacy" composite and S-video inputs and outputs. The Model 975 also uses a high-performance 480i to 1080p video scaler, in case you're still rocking a VCR or classic Wii.
In addition to the HDMI ports, audio is supported by two optical and two coaxial digital inputs, five analog stereo inputs, a record output, a low-noise 1/4-inch headphone jack, and a configurable 7.1-multichannel output for use with surround back or front height-enhanced speaker systems.
The Outlaw Audio Model 975 Home Theater Surround Processor will list for $549. Outlaw Audio offers a 30-day in-home audition period where consumers can put the budget surround processor to the test.
