Onkyo Announces DV-BD507 Blu-ray Player
By Rachel Cericola
Onkyo is throwing another Blu-ray player out there for your consideration. Of course, if you pledge your allegiance to Onkyo alone, this will bring the grand total to
two players that you'll be able to choose from.
The latest is the
DV-BD507, which offers your typical 1080p playback and high-resolution multichannel audio over a HDMI 1.3a cable. The big news that Onkyo keeps mentioning is that this one offers BD-Live functionality, which basically means it's like most other current players -- even the sub-$200 ones that keep popping up.
OK, not
exactly. It is Onkyo and they make some very nice gear for consumers interested in audio and video performance. But be prepared to pay for that privilege because the player rings up at a fairly high $449. Still, it is a nice drop in price from Onkyo's previous player, the DV-BD606, which retailed for $599, without support for BD-Live.
Just be aware: that price doesn't include the optional 1GB SD/SDHC card that you'll need to make the BD-Live feature actually work. Other features include scaling of all video sources to 1080p and support for standard-def DVDs, CDs and AVCHD video clips, if they are stored on an SD or SDHC card or a DVD-R/RW. The player does not offer any online streaming or IPTV features.
According to Amazon.com, the DV-BD507 will be available by the end of this month.
