Barnes & Noble is hoping to soon see a NOOK in every house and maybe even every pair of hands, if possible. B&N just announced a promotion that certainly makes the retailer's eReader hard to beat.
For a limited time, Barnes & Noble will discount two of its popular NOOK devices when you order a one-year subscription to The New York Times -- the NOOK version, of course.
With this offer, you can get the NOOK Color for just $99, which is $100 off the list price. If you prefer free -- yes, free -- choose the NOOK Simple Touch. Once you pick an eReader, just place your NYT order and decide whether you want to pick the NOOK up at a local Barnes & Noble or have it shipped to your house!
The NOOK Simple Touch offers an easy way to take all of your reading material on the go. Because it uses e-Ink technology, the NOOK Simple Touch is easy on the eyes. Boasting days -- even weeks -- of battery life, the NOOK Simple Touch allows readers to browse and select from over 2.5 million books through the NOOK store or even from your public library, all over Wi-Fi. It typically retails for $99, so free is certainly a nice bonus.
For something with a few more bells and whistles, the NOOK Color has a full-color 7-inch LCD touch-screen and select apps that can add music, games and more to your overall NOOK experience. It also allows users access to email and the web. Barnes & Noble says that a future upgrade will also add Netflix and Hulu Plus into the mix. Our own Ian White checked out the NOOK Color last year and said it's "a best buy and the eReader to beat." Read his entire NOOK Color eReader Review for more information on this model.
If you aren't a NYT fan and prefer something with more entertainment options, B&N is also slashing $50 off the NOOK Tablet, with a one-year NOOK subscription to People magazine. Normally priced at $249.99, the newly released Tablet offers a more powerful processor that can make the most out of Android apps, including games and multimedia. The NOOK Tablet comes with access to Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and the Android app market, as well as access to millions of NOOK books and magazines. Our own Chris Chiarella reviewed this model, saying "if you want a compact, blazing-fast tablet computer with an eye-popping screen for two-and-a-half bills, you can't go wrong." Read his full NOOK Tablet Review for more information.
According to B&N, early termination fees will apply if you decide to cancel your digital subscription before the year is up, so make sure to read the fine print before you order. Better do that soon, though; this offer is only good from now through March 9, 2012.
