NAD doesn't need bells and whistles on its newly announced T 748 AV Receiver. They would prefer that the component speak for itself -- literally.
The company says that it's focusing on quality over the quanitity of add-ons with this unit, and doing so at an affordable price. At $900, the T 748 is NAD's most affordable surround sound receiver.
Instead of packing in networking features, like some of its current competitors, NAD says that the focus of this 7.1-channel receiver is to create stellar audio and video. Besides Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio decoding, the T 748 can also convert stereo source material using the company's own EARS surround mode. Also, this is not strictly an "audiophile" option; the T748 also supports 3D video up to 1080p.
"More than ever, the market is demanding value and for nearly 40 years, value has been a hallmark of NAD," said Greg Stidsen, NAD's director of technology and product planning. "When designing for a competitive price point, any manufacturer has to make choices on where to prioritize performance versus features. In the case of the T 748, we chose performance and ease of use over bells and whistles and we believe that is what discriminating music and movie lovers want."
Five presets make it easy to tailor performance to the owner's taste. Analog video, Audio Return Channel (ARC), and Consumer Electronic Control (CEC) are all supported on HDMI, for an easy install. For radio fans, the T 748 also includes an FM/AM tuner, 30 station presets, and RDS support.
The T 748 is designed to be the hub of your entire AV setup. It has four HDMI ports, component and composite inputs, S-Video, and an RS-232 port for integration with control systems from Crestron, AMX, Control4, and others. Add in the optional IPD 2 Dock for iPod playback, with song information displayed right on the receiver's display.
NAD says that the T 748 is now shipping.
