Big Picture Big Sound

Mozaex Adds iPhone Control, Blu-ray 3D Playback and 7.1 Channel Sound to Entertainment Servers

By Rachel Cericola

Mozaex wants to make the most of your media experience. The company just made two big announcements, in the hopes of becoming an even bigger player in the media server category.

First, the company has just starting shipping its Mozaex 3D line, which allows users to play Blu-ray 3D titles anywhere in the home. Of course, it can also do regular Blu-ray Discs, standard-def DVDs, as well as CDs, MP3s, photos and even web services, such Netflix and Pandora. (Some subscription fees may apply).

Another new feature on each model is 7.1 channel LPCM HD audio support. The 3 Series product adds in LPCM, as well as offering Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio bit-streams.

With add-ons like that, you might want to get totally immersed in entertainment. To make that happen, up to 10 Mozaex Players can be hooked to a Solo system or up to 30 Players can be connected to the a Player/Server system. That could potentially be a whole lot of 3D (assuming there are ever more than a handful of Blu-ray 3D discs available). The company is adding 3D support to all of its existing player/server products, as well as the all-in-one Solo system. The upgrade will cost $500 per player or Solo. The Solo 1 3D 1TB system starts at $4795 (MSRP). The Mozaex Player 1 3D without on-board storage starts at $3495.

The Solo server comes in three versions, all of which will come with 3D features.

Mozaex currently has three series of models to choose from: The quiet and compact 1 Series, the stylish 2 Series, and the rugged, rack-mount 3 Series. All Mozaex 3D systems also require Active 3D glasses as well as a 3D TV. Check the Mozaex website for a list compatible products.

Also, if you're looking for a way to control that setup, the company just added a slew of new control modules, for iPhone/iPad, Control4, Savant, NetStreams, and RTI systems. Currently, the Mozaex can be controlled through the Mozaex IR remote, as well as other remotes and controllers from Crestron, AMX, Elan, HomeLogic and Vantage.

A Mozaex Server is required for 2-way control systems. However, you just need the Player if you want iPhone, Control4 and NetStreams modules as a one-way interface or a two-way music interface.

All Mozaex Remote Control Interface software modules are available via authorized Mozaex dealers. However, Savant users will need to contact their dealer to get that module, while the iPhone/iPad App should be available at Apple's App Store starting this month.
