MartinLogan Readies Mikros 90 Reference On-Ear Headphones

By Rachel Cericola

MartinLogan is putting its legendary electrostatic speakers into a convenient, portable package. Well, sort of. The company says that those speakers served as the inspiration for the newly announced Mikros 90 Reference Noise Isolating On-Ear Headphones.

Promising all of that MartinLogan goodness for on-the-go listening, each pair of Mikros 90 headphones boasts a comfy fit and ambient noise isolation features. In other words, these should be equivalent to having your own MartinLogan private listening room strapped right to your head.

The Mikros 90 is constructed from genuine leather and lightweight polished aluminum. It also has soft replaceable ear pads that should get you through many hours of comfortable listening. Those pads also promise to block out 92.05 percent of ambient noise, all while cranking out natural deep, extended bass and an open, revealing midrange.

Other features include a 90-degree gold-plated 3.5mm plug and a removable black rubberized cord to further dampen and isolate noise. Each Mikros 90 also has an in-line remote/microphone for controlling volume, play/pause, track selection and voice control. While those features may vary by your portable device of choice, those with compatible Apple products should expect seamless transitions between listening to music and phone calls.

Finally, a folding design and carrying case make this set perfect for travel.

MartinLogan plans to start shipping the Mikros 90 sometime at the end of November. Expect each pair to have an MSRP of $299.95.
