MartinLogan is making a little speaker magic at this week's CEDIA Expo. Hot on the heels of the company's EFX on-wall speaker comes word about the Montis.
As part of the company's Reserve ESL Series, the Montis is MartinLogan's newest hybrid electrostatic speaker. This latest model combines controlled dispersion curvilinear XStat electrostatic technology, a proprietary Vojtko crossover and DSP engine, and a blended woofer system.
That, combined with a 200-watt class-D amplifier, can supposedly deliver low-frequency sounds down to 29Hz. MartinLogan also says that the speaker has integrated low-frequency equalization below 100Hz, to further enhance the bass performance and adjust for individual room acoustics.
Besides the super bass, the Montis has MicroPerf stator technology, which means it has almost twice as much exposed diaphragm surface as a traditional electrostat of the same size. So it doesn't just look cool; it should sound pretty awesome as well.
Following in the footsteps of MartinLogan's flagship Summit X speaker, the Montis also has XStat and AirFrame technologies, vacuum bonding, a Curvilinear Line Source electrostatic transducer, dipole sound radiation, a low-distortion aluminum-cone woofer, advanced Vojtko filtering, the aforementioned 24-bit Vojtko DSP engine, and 100-Hz level control.
MartinLogan is kicking in some 3/8-16 ETC spikes with these speakers, which can keep the cabinets sturdy on carpets, or create tighter coupling between speaker and floor. Those same spikes should also allow fine tuning of vertical wave launch for mid- and high-frequencies.
Available in black ash, dark cherry and high-gloss black cherrywood (that one is new!), MartinLogan should start shipping the Montis this month, for $9995 per pair.
