Marantz Bows 2 Networked A/V Receivers for 2012: SR7007 and Slim NR1603

By Rachel Cericola

The CEDIA Expo just wrapped up its annual festivities. Now we just have to wait for all of those new products to arrive. Well, some you'll have to wait on, but two newly announced Marantz receivers are available right now.

The company's 7.1-channel NR1603 and 7.2-channel SR7007 both come packing the extremely hot Apple AirPlay feature. That little perk allows users to stream content to the receiver from any networked iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC.

Both models also have a front-panel USB input, which also supports iPod Digital Direct. If you don't have an iOS device to take advantage of those features, these new components do have access to web radio stations, Pandora and SiriusXM. (Just remember that subscriptions and/or fees may apply.) Both of the receivers also have DLNA 1.5 support, Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ settings, a new GUI and a new setup assistant to help you tweak the receiver for your setting.

The SR7007 has pass-through of 4k content and scaling to 4k, seven HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs.

The 7.2-channel SR7007 has pass-through of 4k content and scaling to 4k, as well as a 1080 i/p video scaler, seven HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs. Other features on this high-end receiver include 125 watts per channel, 2-source/2-zone audio/video distribution over HDMI, and a phono input.

As far as the 7.1-channel NR1603 is concerned, the unit has 50 watts per channel, multizone and multisource audio, two component video inputs and one output.

The NR1603 and SR7007 are available now. Expect to see MSRPs listed at $649.99 and $1799.99, respectively.
