Logitech is throwing its name into the growing pool of AirPlay-enhanced speaker systems. The company just took the wraps off the Logitech UE Air Speaker, which isn't just the company's first AirPlay speaker. It's also the first speaker to come out of Logitech's Ultimate Ears brand.
Using Apple's AirPlay technology, the setup boasts uncompressed audio streams from a user's iTunes library, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch right to the UE Air Speaker. Both the source audio and the Air Speaker need to be connected to the same WiFi network to make the magic happen. Logitech promises to add a little oomph into the equation via the speaker's dual tweeters and woofers.
To set the system up, just dock your iOS device of choice and follow the on-screen instructions. Those will tell you to download the Logitech UE Air app and type in your WiFi password. From there, the device doesn't need to be docked. However, if you're willing to stop playing Words With Friends for a few minutes, the Logitech UE Air Speaker can charge up that docked portable while it's playing music.
"There's a new breed of music fans whose iPad and iPhone devices are at the center of their listening activities," said Rory Dooley, senior vice president of music at Logitech. "We created the Logitech UE Air Speaker to give those people a great audio experience that combines effortless streaming with fantastic sound. With its stylish, modern design, easy setup and excellent sound, the Logitech UE Air Speaker looks and sounds phenomenal in any room in the house."
Of course, the Logitech UE Air Speaker isn't too shabby to look at, either. Featuring some funky curves and a piano-black finish, you're not going to mind putting this speaker out on display.
Logitech says that we can expect to see UE Air Speaker start shipping sometime in April. When it does, it will come packing an MSRP of $399.99.
