New York City's Fashion Week doesn't usually attract the attention of the consumer electronics industry, but American couturier Marc Bouwer decided that his runway show this year in NYC was going to be a perfect opportunity to showcase his new designs in a most unique way. Bouwer utilized the internet last year exclusively to strut his stuff, so the natural progression for 2011 had to be the use of 3D technology. Bouwer, in a very clever move that probably raised Karl Lagerfeld's hair even higher than normal, reached out to LG Electronics who were more than excited about the opportunity to showcase their new, cutting-edge CF3D home theater projector.
Marc Bouwer made history last Sunday night when he presented his 2011 Fall collection during an invitation-only (we lost ours) event featuring former Victoria Secret model Selita Ebanks at SOHO House in stunning 3D. LG's USA Commercial Division brought out its big guns and the crowd of celebrities and fashion industry leaders were blown away by Bouwer's presentation.
LG's participation in Fashion Week makes a lot of sense as Sony recently partnered with Sports Illustrated to offer a 3D video version of the 2011 SI Swimsuit issue via the PlayStation 3 and Sony's 3D-enabled Blu-ray players. There is no doubt that sex and high fashion sell and 3D TV sales could certainly use a shot in the arm as the current crop of 3D films in theaters are not driving folks into their nearest Best Buy to pick one up.
Unlike some other 3D projection systems which utilize two projectors - one for each eye, the CF3D has two projection units built into one chassis, reducing the size of the projector as well as the installation complexity. The advanced LCOS system creates the polarized stereoscopic image within the unit and projects the two images simultaneously to maximize brightness.
The overall result reduces ghosting and has improved brightness and resolution in 3D. The projector requires a 3D Blu-ray player, 3D glasses, and a silver screen to show off its 3D capabilities. No word on pricing quite yet.
