LG Puts Nano Lighting into LEX8 LED 3D TV

By Rachel Cericola

LG has finally provided details on the long-awaited LEX8 3D TV. Those at IFA 2010 will be the first to get a sneak peek at the set, which is LG's first to use Nano lighting technology.

Nano features a thin film printed with tiny dots, which are positioned between of a full array of LED lights and the LCD imaging panel. This allows the light to be dispersed more evenly and more precisely across the screen. The end result is a super-clear, super-efficient image. It also features better local dimming, via the LEX8's Micro Pixel Control.

As far as content is concerned, the LEX8 is packed, with 3D features as well as LG's on-screen NetCast content service. Other features on the unit include TruMotion 400Hz technology (that will translate to 480 Hz in the North American market) and an Anti-Reflection Panel, all wrapped up into LG's very sweet INFINIA design, which has a bezel that's a mere 0.88 cm thick.

Another nifty feature is the Magic Motion Remote Control, which allows Wii-like control using a remote and on-screen cursor.

"In creating our first television using Nano technology, LG is continuing to set new standards in TV technology and demonstrating once again that we're pushing the envelope of home entertainment," said Simon Kang, president and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company. "Just as difficult as it is to watch standard TV after experiencing high definition, people will resist going back to regular LED LCD TVs after viewing the LEX8."

For now, there's no word on pricing as well as when LG's LEX8 will be available for purchase.
