Klipsch is squeezing something special into its HD Theater SB 3. The newly announced soundbar and wireless subwoofer package is the company's first soundbar to include horn-loaded technology.
That basically means that this slim little package should be super-efficient, so you can crank it up without needing a lot of power. It also means that you don't have to confine the setup to those smaller rooms; Klipsch says that the HD Theater SB 3 can handle even the largest listening areas.
Inside, the soundbar has lightweight aluminum tweeter diaphragms and new long-throw woofers. Of course, those tweeters are couple to Klipsch-exclusive Tractrix Horns. Rounding out the package is a 10-inch wireless subwoofer, which can be placed almost anywhere. Housed in an MDF cabinet, this unit is a perfect match to the soundbar, boasting distortion-free bass.
Other features include a built-in Dolby Digital decoder, which can be paired with the digital toslink optical connection. An analog hookup and 3.5mm input are also available. Also worth noting is the system's 3D Surround Mode, which is designed to simulate a surround system.
"For the first time, we are taking strategic steps to apply our same sound ideals to this increasingly popular speaker category," said Mark Casavant, senior vice president of global product development for Klipsch. "Because of its horn-loaded technology, the HD Theater SB 3 is capable of focusing more sound for listeners and perfecting the very purpose of soundbars -- dialog clarity that's so often lacking in today's television speakers. As a Klipsch product, it also delivers power to the performance."
Available in a satin black finish, the HD Theater SB 3 can sit on its own L-shaped feet or be mounted to the wall using the included template. Klipsch will start shipping the HD Theater SB 3 next month. It will be available via authorized retailers, with an MSRP of $799.99.
