KEF is adding a variety of shapes to its custom installation (Ci) line of loudspeakers. The company just announced the Classic Ci Series, a line of in-ceiling speakers that start at a mere $299.99 per pair.
One of the things that sets this speaker apart from others is how the woofers aren't set apart -- from the wall, anyway. KEF says that by mounting the woofers close to the plane of the wall within a home, it eliminates diffraction and improves the speaker's off-axis response.
That sound is given an extra boost from KEF's "Tangerine" Waveguide and the Asymmetrical Tweeter Island. Other features include 6.5-inch woofers and 0.75-inch aluminum dome tweeters. Each Ci Series speaker also includes special grille treatments with a proprietary powder-coating process, moisture-resistant fixing and other special materials. That basically means that you can use these speakers in moisture-prone areas, such as by the pool, in the bathroom, and even on a boat.
"Our Classic Ci Series offers an unmatched combination of KEF's legendary sound performance with an impressive price point," said David Kroll, KEF's national sales manager. "Professional integrators, and their customers, will greatly appreciate how the series utilizes KEF's Tangerine Waveguide and Asymmetrical Tweeter Island to achieve astounding off-axis response for sound that completely fills the room."
KEF's Classic Ci Series will come in three models: round, square and rectangle. The round Ci160SR includes a 6.5-inch low-frequency drive unit, a 0.75-inch high-frequency drive unit, and a 7.71-inch cutout. The square Ci160SS has the 6.5-inch LF driver, the 0.75-inch HF drivers and a 7.64-by-7.64-inch cutout. And finally, the rectangle Ci160SL has the same LF and RF drive units, with a 10.79-by-7.64-inch cutout.
All three of KEF's Classic Ci speakers will sell for $299.99 per pair.
