Chances are, you've never heard of Hisense. However, that's about to change. The Chinese-based company is slowing making a name for itself, with a slew of interesting new TV releases.
The latest is the Google TV powered 55-inch 55XT780, which just made the list as one of the 2013 International CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards Honorees.
The CES Innovations Awards entries are judged on overall engineering qualities related to technical specifications and materials, aesthetics and design qualities, the product's intended use and function, unique features and how the design and innovation of the product compares to others in the marketplace.
This 55-incher is very pretty on the outside, but it's what's going on in that slim chassis that's most impressive. It's one of the few models currently packing in the power of Google TV, the Android platform that can put a web browser, email, shopping, news and viewing recommendations right on your big screen. Other features include instant access to services like Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, Facebook, and much more. Even more interesting is that it can also tap into Google Play, which adds in an endless supply of app options.
To make surfing around all of those web-based goodies a little easier, Hisense is packing this model with a two-sided remote, which includes a QWERTY keyboard. The 55XT780 also has a lot of love for a lot of video formats. The company says it can do HD in 2D and 3D and has support for flash and HTML5, as well as the H.264, MPEG-4 and AVC formats.
There's no additional specs or pricing available for the 55XT780 yet. However, Hisense plans to show off the set this January, at the 2013 International CES in Las Vegas, Nevada.
