HiFiMAN Unveils RE300 and RE400i In-Ear Headphones and EF100 Amplifier

By Rachel Cericola

Looking to get a little bit of holiday shopping out of the way? HiFiMAN just announced a few possible gift ideas for the headphone fan on your list.

First up are two new headphone options. The RE300 Series actually comes in three flavors. The RE300a is designed for Android-based phones, with the RE300i made for the iPhone and the RE300h for users that don't want to commit to one platform. All three are compact and made for travel, with an 8.5mm driver, 32 ohms impedance and a sensitivity rating of 108dB. The smartphone-friendly models have compatible in-line controls, with the RE300h dropping those in favor of an oxygen-free cable that boasts better sonic performance.

All three of the RE300 models are available now for $49 each.

If someone on your list has been really nice, you can opt for the RE400i. Based on the popular RE-400, this new model has inline controls designed for iOS devices. Other features include an 8.5mm coated Titanium driver, Neodynamic magnets, oxygen-free copper cables, and an ergonomic design. The RE400i will start selling this month, with an MSRP of $99.

Maybe the music fan on your list already has a great pair of headphones. Well, they can always sound better. The EF100 headphone amplifier can help with that. This has a hybrid design with both tube and solid-state technology. This allows the amp to drive headphones as well as loudspeakers.

The EF100 is divided into three sections. One has a vacuum tube input stage, one has a Class AB headphone amp, and one has a Class T speaker power amp. Having that vacuum tube technology inside allows this one component to deliver smooth, detailed sound. As a hybrid headphone amp, the unit can produce 2 watts of output under a 32-ohm load. In power amplifier mode, the amplifier output line is independent from the digital amplifier line.

HiFiMAN is selling the EF100 now, priced at $499.
