The biggest film franchise of all time is about to go out with a bang, as well as a Blu-ray release. Warner Home Video just announced plans to release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 on Blu-ray and DVD on April 15, 2011.
The Blu-ray combo pack will feature HD and SD versions of the film, as well as a digital copy. The MSRP on the 3-disc set is $35.99. A single-disc stand-alone DVD will also be available for $28.98.
Part 1 is the beginning of the end for the series, which has grossed over $5.5 billion to date. Our own Joe Lozito seemed to like the most recent installment saying, "For a Potter-fiend, it'll be 146 minutes of pure joy." Read his theatrical review of for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. The finale, also known as Part 2, will be released into theaters on July 15, 2011.
Aside from having Harry Potter in your possession, we're guessing that a lot of fans will want this Blu-ray release just to get a peek at the opening of the upcoming final film. That's right; this is an exclusive that's not on the web (yet) or anywhere else.
Other features include a Maximum Movie Mode with Jason Isaacs, as well as other cast and crew, additional scenes, a soundtrack featurette, interviews, and a short titled, "The Seven Harrys." There's also a "Focus Points" section, which has nine shorts on topics such as "Hagrid's Motorbike," "Godric's Hollow," "Deatheaters attack Cafe," and "Amazing (or) Magical Tents!"
If you need a refresher course before the finale, Warner also plans to release Harry Potter Years 1-7 Part 1 sets in Blu-ray (MSRP: $134.99) and DVD ($78.92) on April 15, 2011. Both sets include the first seven Harry Potter films, as well as bonus features.
At press time, Amazon didn't have the new set listed, and only offered page-holders for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. Check back using the links listed below, or sign up on Amazon to receive an email alert once pre-ordering begins.
