The 55LW5300 TV features full HD 1080p resolution, TruMotion 120 Hz processing for smooth motion reproduction, 1 AV input, 2 component video and 3 HDMI inputs so you can connect all your devices, both old and new. There's even a VGA input (DB15) for hooking up a computer. The built-in ATSC/QAM tuner allows you to tune in your local digital channels for free, assuming you are close enough to your broadcast towers.
So what's missing? The LW5300 series lacks internet streaming or "Smart TV" features such as Netflix streaming. If you'd like to add these features, we'd recommend getting a separate set-top box such as the ROKU (priced from $49 to $99). This allows you to add Netflix streaming, Amazon VOD, Pandora, and dozens of other network streaming services, games and apps to this or any TV with an HDMI input.
Other than the Smart TV features, the LW5300 series is identical in specs and performance to the LW5600 series, which our own Ian White reviewed earlier this year. Check out the details in his 55LW5600 review.
The LW5300 is part of LG's Cinema 3D series, which means it uses light, inexpensive passive 3D glasses to create the 3D effect. These are the same as the ones you wear in most 3D movie theaters (RealD). A built-in 2D to 3D conversion feature allows you to convert your existing movies and other content to 3D, though of course native 3D content will look much better. And if you don't care for 3D at all, then just keep the TV in 2D mode where you'll enjoy a glasses-free full HD 1080p high definition image.
Also, keep in mind that Amazon offers free enhanced shipping, a 14-day price match policy and 30-day no cost returns, so you can sleep easy without worrying that the TV will go on sale for less next week or that it will arrive damaged in shipping. Pricing is subject to change by Amazon and this deal may end without notice, subject to avaiability.
