The current device offers a single HDMI 1.3 input with support for full high-definition 1080p resolution at 60 Hz as well as PCM or Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound. The device supports the WHDI (Wireless High Definition) standard, version 1.0 and is rated to transmit that full high definition audio/video signal for up to 30 meters in open range. Transmitting through cabinet doors or walls is also supported though that does cut down the usable range.
A minimal design, the wireless HDMI unit consists of two simple boxes: one transmitter and one receiver; both appear nearly identical with a piano finish. Each unit, which is about the size of a small wireless router, comes with a base attachment that can be used to position the module vertically or horizontally, as space permits.
The ideal implementation of Sceptre's wireless transmitter module is to use it in conjunction with an HDMI-capable audio/video receiver or HDMI switcher. This way the receiver or switcher can be used to select among various HDMI devices before sending that 1080p signal over the airwaves to a the receiver module which is connected to an available HDMI input on the TV. Then the only challenge is to get a power cable to the receiver module, as well as to the TV itself, but these are fairly easy to hide behind your TV.
Sceptre's Wireless 1080p HDMI Transmitter and Receiver kit carries the suggested retail price of $299.99 and it will be making its way to online and brick and mortar Sceptre dealers in the near future.
Future product generations are likely to support multiple HDMI inputs.
