Flixster Starts Streaming UltraViolet on Xbox 360

By Rachel Cericola

We're always looking for new ways to access our favorite films. Now we have another method to add to the arsenal. Flixster just announced plans to start streaming on the Xbox 360.

Flixster offers the ability to rent and/or buy thousands of different movies, in both standard- and high-definition. Of course, if you don't want to spend any extra money, you could always stream your own UltraViolet collection through the app. That's right; all of those digital copies you've been amassed from buying Blu-ray discs will finally have a place to call home -- and a purpose!

Other Flixster perks include reviews and other info from the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, as well as new movie trailers, a peek at new and upcoming Blu-ray releases, and more. Flixster also offers the option to watch movies in 5.1 surround sound via Dolby Digital Plus, on select titles.

Also worth noting is a little something for Kinect users. If you have that accessory hooked up to the Xbox 360, you can navigate through the app using voice and gesture controls.

"The mission of UltraViolet is to allow consumers to enjoy their content on any device and platform they desire," said Joe Greenstein, co-founder and president of Flixster. "Launching Flixster on Xbox is an exciting step forward for us as it's one of the most popular platforms for consumers to enjoy entertainment in their living room."

The new Flixster app is available now as a free download to Xbox LIVE subscribers in the U.S.
