Soccer hooligans will soon have something good to get riled up about. ESPN just announced that they will launch a 3D network in 2010. The first broadcast will be the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
ESPN 3D will showcase at least 85 live sporting events each year. The first will be June 11's 2010 FIFA World Cup match, featuring South Africa versus Mexico.
When it's not airing programming, the network will be dark. However, you can expect at least another 25 World Cup matches, as well as college basketball and football, the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, and the Summer X Games.
"We're going to assess the viability of this as we did with all our businesses," Sean Bratches, an ESPN executive vice president for sales and marketing, told USA Today. ESPN says it has been testing the technology for two years, and they are committed to the 3D network through June 2011.
Of course, to get ESPN 3D, you will need a 3D-capable TV. Expect to see plenty of options announced at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
