While Mickey Mouse has been an iconic animated character for decades, he has not made much of an impact as a video game character. That could change and in an epic way as Disney has announced plans to introduce an original video game starring the mouse, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. And least you think this will just be a generic adventure, think again.
As an interesting twist, famed RPG (Role Playing Game) developer Warren Spector - whose work has included much darker titles such as System Shock and Deus Ex is responsible for taking the lead on this new story, where Mickey Mouse accidentally ends up in the vast "Cartoon Wasteland." Here he finds himself all but forgotten, and actually rejected by other Disney characters.
This doesn't exactly sound like a premise worthy of a ride at the happiest place on earth, but from the demo we saw at E3 earlier this week, the game looks like it could be a turn in the right direction for the goodie goodie mouse, taking him back to his more mischevious ways. To this end Mickey is given two main powers, which include the ability to paint and use paint thinner on the environment. With the paint Mickey can change the environment, while the thinner can remove objects.
Through this journey it is promised that Mickey will cross paths with other famous Disney characters from across the Mouse-House's vast properties. And one truly interesting twist is where Mickey can end up in a 2D sidescrolling mode that is meant to resemble his past films, including the original "Steamboat Willie."
