Back in the fall of 2010, Denon introduced a nice little tabletop pair, the RCD-N7 CD Receiver and the SC-N7 Stereo Loudspeakers. A few months later, they improved upon both products, by adding Apple AirPlay support into that mix.
Now, Denon is building on the success of that pair, announcing the wireless CEOL piccolo Network Music System. Designed for anywhere, anytime music, the setup features the DRA-N5 Network Receiver and SC-N5 Loudspeakers.
That receiver includes a 30-pin iPod dock for use with older iPhone and iPod models, or you can rock out with an iPhone 5 (or any other networked iOS device) using Apple AirPlay. That little perk allows users to stream music wirelessly from any networked iOS portable, as well as a PC or Mac. It also has a 65W + 65W audio amplifier and the option to stream Pandora, Spotify and SiriusXM -- via a subscription and a WiFi network, of course.
Other features include a front-panel USB port, an RJ-45 port, an optical digital audio input for connecting to the TV or other digital devices, and an audio decoder that can support high-resolution files up to 192 kHz/24 bit, including WAV and FLAC file types.
The system also comes with a remote or you can control the CEOL piccolo via Denon's free Remote App and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Also remember that the receiver and speakers make a nice little match. The SC-N5 set promises a response extending all the way out to 40 kHz.
"CEOL is the Gaelic word for music, and piccolo is Italian for small, which really encapsulates the concept of our ‘small music system,' while underscoring its Euro-style elegance and refinement," said Yoshinori Yamada, D+M's product planning manager. "Despite its compact size, Denon's CEOL piccolo desktop audio system delivers truly amazing sound quality, and offers discerning consumers a simple, superb listening experience from a broad range of music sources."
Denon will start shipping the CEOL piccolo Network Music System in late October in black and white finishes, with an MSRP of $649.99. Both pieces can also be purchased separately, with the DRA-N5 Network Receiver priced at $499.99 and the SC-N5 Loudspeaker listed at $149.99.
