Denon Electronics has been cranking out all sorts of electronics lately. Apparently, they are showing no signs of slowing down, either. The company just announced a pair of new 7.2-channel home theater receivers, which will be coming this summer.
Both of the receivers are part of Denon's 2015 IN-Command Series. However, the real hook is that the Denon AVR-X2200W and the AVR-X1200W will come packing support for Dolby Atmos. This is Dolby's 3D-like audio format, which can deliver sound from every angle---including overhead. Even better, both units can also accommodate DTS' newly announced object-based audio format, DTS:X. That option will be available on each receiver via a free firmware update later this year.
Each of the new IN-Command receivers has the HDMI 2.0a spec with full 4K Ultra HD support, HDR (high dynamic range) and HDCP 2.2 on all HDMI inputs. Speaking of which, the AVR-X2200W has six HDMI inputs, while the AVR-X2200W has eight HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs.
The AVR-X1200W can deliver Dolby Atmos sound in a 5.1.2 configuration and has the Dolby Surround Upmixing feature for spreading everyday sound (without Atmos) around to those speakers. It also boasts 80 watts per channel (8 ohm, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.08%THD), a quad-core 32-bit DSP processor, WiFi, Bluetooth, AirPlay and DLNA, as well as Spotify Connect and web radio. (Just remember that subscriptions and/or fees may apply for those streaming services.) Other features include a front-panel USB input, the Audyssey MultEQ XT with Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ, multiroom and multi-source support for a second room, dual subwoofer inputs, and the option for streaming high-resolution DSD, FLAC and AIFF formats.
The AVR-X2200W has all of the features mentioned above, but pumps up the sound with 95 watts per channel (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08%THD). Other features include video upscaling so lower resolution content can be viewed at 1080p and 4K Ultra HD, ISF certification, an RS-232C terminal, and more.
Also worth mentioning is that each of the new Denon IN-Command receivers will work with the company's AVR Remote app for iOS and Android devices.
Denon is planning to ship the AVR-X2200W and the AVR-X1200W sometime in July. The company has priced the receivers at $799 and $599, respectively.
