DISH Network Adds Remote Access via iPad App

By Rachel Cericola

DISH Network is delivering on its plan to put TV Everywhere. The latest gadget to succumb to DISH domination is the iPad.

The satellite provider just announced that DISH Remote Access is now available as an iPad app. DISH Remote Access allows DISH Network customers to view live and recorded TV from compatible smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Of course, to use that service with the iPad, you will need the free app as well as a Sling-enabled product, such as the ViP922 DVR or the ViP722 with the add-on Sling Adapter.  And you will need to be a DISH Network subscriber.

We reviewed the Sling Adapter a few weeks back, and loved it. When paired with the ViP 722 or 722k HD DVRs, the Sling Adapter puts your live DISH channel lineup and recorded DVR content on any web browser. It also allows you to access that content through the DISH Remote Access app. During our review of the unit, DISH told us that they were in the process of bringing an iPad-specific app to the iTunes Store.

Now that app is available for download. "DISH Network is the only pay-TV provider to offer a true TV everywhere solution, and now we've extended that experience to the iPad," said Ira Bahr, DISH's chief marketing officer. "Unlike mobile viewing from cable and telcos that limit access to select programs, our TV Everywhere services give consumers 24 x 7 access to all of their live and recorded content included with their DISH Network programming subscription."

Subscribers can also use the DISH Remote Access app to manage and schedule recordings, search programming up to nine days in advance, and use the iPad as a giant remote control.
