The NCAA Tournament is about to get pretty heated. There's definitely a few sports fans out there that will be unreachable (and inconsolable) for the next week or three. While many of you will be glued to the games, DISH Network is hoping that Hopper users will go mad for some of the company's new March Madness updates.
The DISH Network Hopper Whole-House DVR is a set-top with 2TB of storage and access to exclusive features such as PrimeTime Anytime and Auto Hop. (For more on those, check out our DISH Network Hopper Whole-House DVR Review.) The latest Hopper with Sling even adds Slingbox features inside the package. However, some of the lesser known features are perfect for the frothing March Madness fan.
First up is the Hopper's Game Finder. This on-screen sports app can display all of the Tournament's games on one screen. From there, you can opt to watch or record upcoming games -- all right from the app. DISH Network says that the company has upgraded the Game Finder's navigation and access to sports scores, adding in the ability to sort games by conference or even hide games that are blacked out in your area.
If you have an iPad, you're going to want to have the free DISH Explorer app loaded and ready to roll from the opening tip. DISH just added an NCAA Tournament tab right on the main screen. This allows viewers to check out upcoming games, times and channels, as well as set recordings. Users can also cheer (and jeer) with other sports fans via Twitter, right through the app.
Just so you don't get confused, know that the DISH Explorer provides access to favorite teams, recording options, and real-time updates. The DISH Anywhere app will allow you to take those games on the go, so you can watch live and recorded content from anywhere with a web connection. That includes tablets, smartphones and PCs. However, you're going to need the Hopper with a Sling Adapter or the new Hopper with Sling, which has the tech built right inside the box.
The 2013 NCAA Tournament is kicking off its second round today. The tournament will run for the next few weeks, with the Final Four wrapping things up at Atlanta's Georgia Dome from April 6-8, 2013.
