With all of the smartphones and tablets out there, it's hard to break out in the portable music player market. Calyx Audio is trying to stand out by offering really good audio in a portable package.
The company just debuted its Calyx M personal audio player at CES. The difference between this product and the many devices out there is that it promises reference-quality music with all of the convenience of your typical portable.
The Calyx M has a 4.65-inch high-def OLED screen, as well as an easy to use and easy to upgrade software platform. It also has a 21000mAh battery capacity, which promises up to seven hours of playback on a full charge.
Besides support for FLAC and both uncompressed and compressed music files, the Calyx M can also do DSD64, DSD128 and DXD files. To accommodate all of those high-res goodies, the device has 64GB of internal flash memory, which can be upgraded to 128GB via an add-on microSD card.
Other features include 1.25V RMS output and ultra-low 3.3Ω output impedance, as well as an asynchronous USB input that works with Windows XP, Vista 7 and 8 (both 32-bit and 64-bit), as well as the Apple OS 10.6.
"We designed the Calyx M with specific goals in mind, including pricing, and we're very pleased with the fact that we accomplished every one of them," said Mr. Seungmok Yi, CEO of Calyx Audio. "It's an exceptional high-end audio device that competes with the most popular smartphones in form, function, and value, and with the most meticulous standalone audiophile components in terms of performance."
The Calyx M personal audio player will start shipping sometime in the first quarter of 2014, with an MSRP of $995.
