CES: Sony dash Personal Internet Viewer Pushes Video and More to Any Room

By Chris Chiarella

Without a doubt the coolest new what's-it at CES thus far, the Sony HID-C10 "dash" Personal Internet Viewer is a multimedia device like no other. It collects "the best of the internet" into a mostly-portable form factor (it apparently needs to be connected to a power supply, but it moves happily from room to room of the house), making more than 1,000 FREE apps available, for us to customize and run behind the seven-inch touch screen LCD. We can pick and choose whichever apps we think we might want or need, and continue to update as we go.

The Wi-Fi-enabled dash delivers information and more, exactly what we ask for--news, sports, traffic, weather, email and de rigueur social networking of course--without being physically connected to a computer. The unit features built-in stereo speakers, so we can enjoy MP3s, internet radio and AM/.FM, in addition to movies, instructional videos, games and so on. A microphone and USB port are also provided.

This is aboiut as close as we could get to the dash at the mobbed Sony press conference.

It also features a clock, so we can wake to music, an alarm, or even a favorite app. The lifestyle-friendly Sony dash will be available "soon," for $199.99.
