At the Dolby booth, the audio pioneers had a section dedicated to one of their most recent innovations, namely Dolby Pro-Logic IIz technology. For those who did not read my review of the Onkyo HT-S6200 Home Theater System (and I think there are still a couple of you), Dolby Pro-Logic IIz processing expands the front soundstage upward to include new front height channels, for a more immersive home theater experience. Newest in the collection of receivers to offer Dolby Pro-Logic IIz is the Sony STR-DN1010 Multichannel Audio/Video Receiver, joining models from Onkyo, Denon and Marantz.
A prototype was on display, although not as part of a live demo (if you could hear how loud and chaotic the show floor can be at any given moment, you'd understand why), and while the STR-DN1010 has not been formally announced by Sony, we're guessing that it is an update to last year's affordable STR-DN1000 AVR. It will be surely be another welcome addition to the growing Sony AVR family.
