CES: Sharp LC-68LE920UN AQUOS LCD Offers 68-inch Screen and New QuadPixel Technology

By Chris Chiarella

Most TVs render their image via a Red/Green/Blue color filter, but yellow has never received much love. Sharp Electronics is changing all that with the addition of Yellow for the first time. This step expands the color gamut dramatically, now capable of displaying one trillion colors, nearly all that can be discerned by the human eye. Difficult shades of gold should no longer be a problem for LCDs. This QuadPixel LE920 AQUOS Series will include the first-ever 68-inch screen size, the LC-68LE920UN, in addition to 60- and 52-inch models. All three will be available this May, although pricing has yet to be announced.

QuadPixel AQUOS LE Series LCDs also feature the 1080p X-Gen LCD panel, with the UltraBrilliant edge-lit LED backlight which offers drastic energy savings versus CCFL-backlit TVs. At only 1.6-inches thin, the full-front panel glass extends to meet the slim border for a sublime look that looks great in the swankiest home theater.

Say "hello" to yellow: The secret lies in that fourth sub-pixel.

These new LED LCD TVs also include Sharp's newest version of AQUOS Net, which delivers streaming video with Netflix, as well as a USB media player. Further, these model employ AquoMotion 240, which virtually eliminates blur and artifacts on fast-moving video, in addition to Sharp's OPC function that automatically adjusts the unit's brightness based on individual room lighting.
