Here at CES, Monster introduced a redesigned line of universal remote controls, offering higher value and best-ever feature sets. These Monster Central Control Systems "console"-type remotes feature a horizontal layout and are extremely hefty, so much so that we might leave them on the coffee table when we push the buttons, and they stay put. The entry-level MCC AVL50 costs a mere $99.95 (manufacturer's suggested list price), while the two-color backlit MCC AV55 model retails for $129.95.
The cream of this new crop is the MCC AVL200 Home Theater Lighting Controller ($249.95). The MCC AVL200 replaces several remotes, with component and activity buttons which send multiple commands to multiple devices automatically for true one-touch control. The intuitive layout of large, tactile buttons is also easy to read, thanks also to the backlight illumination.
The MCC AVL200 arrives preprogrammed with thousands of manufacturers' audio/video component codes, making it functional right out of the box, without the need for any computer connection, although an online setup wizard is available for more complex macrocommands. Easy to master one- or two-handed, the unique game controller layout with left-hand thumbstick offers users a familiar and intuitive interface.
