It's a show of firsts for Bowers & Wilkins (B&W). In addition to their introduction to the headphone market with the P5 Mobile Hi-Fi, the company also showed its first foray into the desktop computer speaker arena with the MM-1 Desktop Speaker. I didn't get a chance to hear the speakers at the show, but given the pedigree of the technology within, it's hard to imagine them sounding bad. Designed by the same team that developed the lauded B&W Zeppelin Docking Speaker for iPod as well as the company's high-end 800 Series loudspeakers, the MM-1s boast Nautilus tube-loaded tweeters and full-range near-field drivers that promise to deliver deep, rich sound without requiring a subwoofer.
The MM-1 also comes complete with a headphone output, which allows for higher quality private listening by routing the PC or Mac's audio through the speaker's built-in DSP.
It also comes with a stylish pebble remote, similar to the Zeppelin's, that not only controls the speakers themselves, but also works with iTunes and Windows Media Player.
The MM-1 should be available beginning in February. Firm pricing information unfortunately wasn't available at the show.
