CES: Anthem Unveils the BLX 200 Blu-ray Player

By Dennis Burger

Anthem, a company long renowned for its high-end (and ultra-high-end) processors, amplifiers, and projectors, introduced its first source component at this year's International CES. The BLX 200 Blu-ray player is a perfect complement to the rest of Anthem's line, both stylistically and in terms of performance. Under the black, brushed-aluminum exterior (which also boasts Anthem's trademark blue lighting, as well as capacitive touch controls), the fully Profile 2.0 (BD-Live) compliat player boasts a gigabyte of internal memory, and also comes with another two gigs of storage in the form of a removable USB flash drive.

In addition to delivering 1080p24 video from its 12-bit/162-MHz video DACs, the BLX 200 can upconvert standard definition DVD to 1080p via HDMI 1.3, or output a native 480i DVD video signal if an external video processor is preferred. It also offers full decoding or bitsteam output of the latest high-resolution audio formats, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

The BLX 200 also supports high-definition home movies burned to standard DVD in AVCHD format.
